Maryland criminal court online record access restored, searches returned to normal turnaround times

As of Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Maryland criminal court online record access has been restored and the search turnaround times in Maryland have been returned to normal. As a reminder, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, criminal records for the state of Maryland became unavailable due to access issues with the online source. As a temporary measure, we had secured an alternate provider with longer turnaround times until the online source was restored. Thank you for your patience.

Kansas multi-county criminal and civil search delays

Recently, Kansas multi-county criminal and civil searches became delayed due to intermittent access with the online source.  At this time, we are actively working to minimize delays and are exploring alternate options to restore turnaround times more quickly.

Department of Justice (DOJ) National Sex Offender automated search backlog cleared

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) National Sex Offender public website (NSOPW) became unavailable due to a data source outage. To minimize impact duration, Sterling secured an alternate method of automated fulfillment on Sunday, May 5, 2024 for impacted DOJ NSOPW searches by directly connecting to California and Delaware Sex Offender Registries. 

As of Monday, May 13, 2024, please note the following updates:

  • After having a significant backlog of automated DOJ NSOPW searches last week, we returned to business as usual on Monday, May 13, 2024.
  • Pending DOJ NSOPW requests requiring additional manual fulfillment steps continue to experience processing delays but we expect to return to business as usual by Monday, May 20, 2024.

Maryland criminal court search delays

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, county and state-level criminal records for the state of Maryland became unavailable due to intermittent access issues with the online source.  In the meantime, we have secured a provider as an alternative fulfillment method, but please expect turnaround time delays of four to six business days.

Update: Department of Justice (DOJ) National Sex Offender workaround in California and Delaware

As previously communicated on Thursday, May 2, 2024, the Department of Justice (DOJ) National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) became unavailable due to a data source outage that started on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. As of Friday, May 3, 2024, the California and Delaware Sex Offender Registries remain unavailable as part of the Department of Justice (DOJ) National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) search. As a result, Sterling is unable to conduct and report sex offender searches in California or Delaware at this time. 

In order to allow remaining searches to run without delay, the following disclosure will appear on consumer reports until California and Delaware Sex Offender Registries are accessible:

The California and Delaware Sex Offender Registries are currently unavailable as part of the Department of Justice Sex Offender Public Website search. As a result, sex offender registry searches were not conducted in California or Delaware for this order.
